Canon EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) Review

The Canon EOS 700D, or Reble T5i, is an entry level DSLR camera for beginners. It replaces the EOS 650D (Rebel T4i) and is considered as a better featured alternative to the EOS 100D (Rebel SL1), Canon’s smallest and lightest DSLR camera.

The EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) comes with a new kit lens (Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM), some subtle cosmetic changes, and better image quality.

As all of Canon’s APS-C DSLR cameras, the EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) is compatible with Canon’s entire line-up lenses, in other words, both EF and EF-S.

Body Design

700DThe body of EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) is made from stainless steel, polycarbonate resin and glass fibre, ensuring the camera is light weighted and strong at the same time. The body with a battery and a SD card only weigh 580 grams. Moreover, the body is freshly coated so that it would be more durable than other entry level DSLR cameras.

Aside from the physical appearance, let’s look into some of the features of the EOS 700D (Rebel T5i).

Key Features

Sensor is the soul of a camera. The EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) equips 18MP resolution, which had been present in the previous generations of the same series. With 18MP, you can output a 12R photo in 300dpi without difficulty.

It includes 9 cross-type AF points, which are superimposed on the LCD when using live view mode and on the view finder when shooting. This gives you more control than the old models.

You can preview the effect of creative filter in the live view mode simultaneously. Furthermore, you can simply use pinch and swipe gestures to navigate when reviewing images.

The design of the mode dial is modified as well. It can now rotate all the way around. It is convenient for people who shift modes very often.

The camera has the shooting speeds at five frames per second (5fps). It is not really fast, yet it is enough for a photography beginner.

New Kit Lens

Together with the EOS 700D (Rebel T5i), Canon also released a new kit lens, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (STM means a Stepper Motor). When you are recording video in MPEG4 at 1080p resolution, no more humming sound of the lens’ motor under the circumstances that autofocus is needed, providing a smooth operation when shooting videos. You can now save the time for post-editing the motor’s hum.

With image stabilizer (IS) equipped in the kit lens, you can now shoot with a slower shutter speed without worrying about handshake.
