Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Kevin Choi and I am from Hong Kong. I was an engineer student and the university life brought me into this photography world. I will keep this about page update if there is any huge life event happens to me.

I had my first DSLR in 2008, the first year of my university life. That was a second hand Nikon D90 with a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 (A16). I remember at that time there were so many people asking why I am getting such a high grade camera instead of a entry level DSLR. It was because I was already so passionated in photography. Why? I don’t know why either. At the time I didn’t have my own DSLR, I like to play around with others’ DSLR. And I felt so great when I was taking the camera in hand and capturing images. I love the shutter sound. Now I still love the sound of shutter, especially the very fast D4′s sound. As I felt my passion there, I started to learn about basic of photography although I didn’t have my own camera. However, I had no equipment to practise. Like most university students, I had knowledge but no experience. When I got into uni, my dearest mum gave me a DSLR as present and I already knew that entry level DSLR could not fulfil my need. Luckily, my friend was selling his 2nd hand Nikon D90 and I got a cheap, almost brand new mid-level DSLR. Therefore I used the rest of the budget to get a better lens, a f2.8 zoom lens. My photography life began.

After I got my first camera, I started to take photos here and there, with no thinking. I was just practising the knowledge I had learnt on the internet. I wasn’t shy to show my picture to others. I loved to hear criticism. And soon, I started to upgrade my gear. I sold the Tamron A16 because of the poor lens quality. (I don’t know how’s the quality in the latest version. But I cannot accept such purple fringe and unsharp corner at that time.) I was upgrading to Nikon 50mm f1.8D, which was, and is, so so so so worth buying, Nikon 16-35mm f4 VR. And then I brought my first tele, Nikon 55-200mm f3.5-5.6 just before I travelled to Langkawi, Malaysia in July, 2011 as my graduation trip.

At the same year, I started to learn about wedding photography and product shooting. My dream of setting up my own studio came at that moment. Although a photographer can earn so much here in Hong Kong, my ultimate goal is not to earn big money. I was wanting to make a living on my passion. And still I am fighting for it. In the real world I was working as an engineer trainee in a large contractor firm. This gave me the financial ability to upgrade to one of my dream lens, Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VRII together with my very first full-frame camera Nikon D700. They are soooooo awesome! I got my first super-tele, Nikon 300mm f4D. It is also a worth buying lens. And I am very happy with the image quality. The only downside of this 300mm is its slow focusing speed and small aperture.

For now, I have left work and am planning to go to Australia working holiday for a year. (Wish me good luck please. And I sold my 16-35mm f4 in exchange of some cash to buy air-ticket. Luckily I get a 2nd hand 24mm f2.8D and 35mm f2D with good price. So before I go, I will try my best to write up more tutorial posts. Please share my site to your friends. Your support give me so much motivation to create more epic tutorials. Stay tuned.
